Eagles – Lock and Dam 14; Le Claire, Iowa
We took another drive to the Mississippi River Sunday to observe Bald Eagles. This time we headed for Lock and Dam 13 in Fulton, IL and then to Lock and Dam 14 in Le Claire, IA which is just outside the Quad Cities. Fulton seemed like a nice town, but the Lock and Dam there does not have a very photo-friendly observation area. I doubt I go back there. Perhaps we’ll head back in the summer to check out other water fowl in the marsh areas. However, Lock and Dam 14 has got to be the mecca for photographers in search of the perfect Eagle shot. You can literally stand at the waters edge with a completely unobstructed view of the Eagle’s feeding frenzy. Unobstructed except for, say, 100 photographers with gear ranging from cell phone cameras to the behemoth outfits and lenses I swear could fire a canon ball. In the 60 minutes we spent here, we observed probably 6-10 eagles that were plenty active enough. Nothing like the swarm of 100 a few weeks ago in Bellevue. But these 6-10 were happy to put on a very active show. Enjoy a few shots from the day.

Awesome shots! Thanks for sharing!
Got a chuckle out of Give me an ‘L’.
