The Dreaded Osteospermum

Osteospermum?  Wait, this is not a medical blog!

Actually, Osteospermum is a flowering plant.  It’s an annual here in Iowa.  My wife and I have never been big on annuals because 1) They’re not cheap.  2) We have invested in quite a few perennials around our patio and have staged them such that something is blooming almost throughout the entire growing season.  However, with the warm and early Spring we experienced, we decided it might make sense to buy some annuals for a change.  One variety we potted is the Osteospermum.  These are very unusual flowers.  They might remind you of an exploding firework.  The flower part is about the size of a button you might find on a coat.

Here are a few shots.  Click for a larger view.  Enjoy!
