This weeks theme of the Weekly Photo Challenge is “Focus”. In this challenge, we are to post photos that demonstrate the importance of focus and how that focus can increase the dramatic effect of the shot. This summer, I had the pleasure of photographing my neighbor who is an aspiring baseball player. While all the youth on the team are the same age and grade, Eli is an early bloomer and is a man amongst boys. He is a dominating pitcher – and a coveted lefty at that.
Anyway, I better re-focus and get back to the theme which is FOCUS. In these two shots, I changed the focal point, aperture, and shutter to create the proper focus I was looking for. One shot, I managed to get the ball screaming towards the catcher’s hit and froze it with a fast shutter speed to clearly bring the strings of the fast moving ball into clear focus. The second shot, I was more interested in catching the dramatic facial expressions Eli has during the pitch. Two shots, same subject matter. Two different focal points. Two different dramatic effects to the viewer using techniques of which make photography a blast.
